Example of a PAE research topic and synopsis

Topic: Sustainability for Placemaking

Synopsis:    Sustainability for Placemaking. The Singapore Heritage Society (SHS) has been working on the ground in Chinatown for the last three years, doing community building and raising cultural awareness as a response to gentrification and over‐commercialization of the neighbourhood, which has created challenges for local small enterprises and food stalls due to ever‐increasing rents. Community relationships and services suffer when long‐standing local businesses close down. This project aims to explore the role that non‐commercial property owners in the area, clan associations, and endowment asset management companies, might be able to play in addressing community needs for space.
